ACTOR, DIRECTOR, PEDAGOGUE & MASK MAKER
Specialist in physical language and poetic research through the body. His artistic practice is driven by the notions of ‘life’ and ‘journey’, inviting to transform space, time and the inner self. Gonzalo is the current director of El Cuarto de Meme, based in Vilnius, Lithuania.
As a pedagogue, he has given more than 40 workshops all over Latin America and Europe. He taught at the Itinerant School of Theatre and Movement (Bolivia and Ecuador, 2015), at the School of Theatre Creation Jallalla (Bolivia, 2016-2018), at the International School CABUIA based on Jacques Lecoq (Argentina, 2018-2020) and at the VII Edition of Galgalhadas Na Lua (Portugal, 2023). Was teaching assistant to Amy Russell and Norman Taylor at Embodied Poetics (Slovenia, 2024).
As a creator, he has been part of several theatre productions since 2012, performing in cities such as Buenos Aires, La Paz, Santiago de Chile, Quito, Barcelona and Lisbon. Co-founded and directed the company Maracaracol Teatro (2017-2021), winner of 4 awards for his opera prima ‘Constelación de Alondra’ (best play, acting, sound and lighting design).
As a mask maker, he has been making pedagogical and stage masks for 10 years. In his work he carries out the theatre exploration of native and ceremonial masks.
Among his fundamental guides are: Amy Russell, Norman Taylor, Alfredo Iriarte, Alejandro Tomás Rodríguez, Emma Bonnici, Cacho Gallegos and his Teatro de la Vuelta, the legendary Ariane Mnouchkine and the Théâtre du Soleil and the wonderful CABUIA School.
